Tarot Card - The Devil
Devil.jpg (13164 bytes)

Devil spelled backwards is lived; evil spelled backwards is live.  The Devil card warns of the entrapment inherent in living, and advises us to use the world and not be used by it; to use every experience as an eye-opener (the third as well as the two!) and thus gain wisdom,  experience's greatest reward.  This is the fully realized goal of Capricorn's ambition.

Keynote
:
The spiritual inspiration that comes to the individual in the overcoming of crisis.
This symbol can be applied to personal crises resulting from emotional upheavals or from the irruption of unconscious forces and impulses into the consciousness -- if the crisis has been faced in the right spirit.  Key phrase here is: A REWARD TO THE FAITHFUL.

*An Astrological Mandala: A Reinterpretation of the Sabian Symbols, Dane Rudhyar, Vintage Books 1974.  These visions were received clairvoyantly in 1925 through "the intermediary" Elsie Wheeler.  Astrologer Marc Edmund Jones flashed each degree of the zodiac, out of sequence, in front of her, and she described the vision she saw.  Decades later, Dane Rudhyar expanded on the significance  of these visions.  They are wise reminders that life is chock full of meaning.

2008 - LUNAR YEAR OF
THE RAT

February 6, 2008 - February 24, 2009

www.petrats.org.uk

I am the self-proclaimed acquisition.
I am a link yet I function as a complete unit.
I aim at encompassing heights
and strike my target, sure and steady.
Life is one joyous journey for me.
Each search must end with a new quest.
I am progress, exploration and insight.
I am the womb of activity.

I AM THE RAT.**

2008 is an EARTH Rat Year:
Expect charm to work this year, and innovation to be welcomed.  If you're charming enough, you can even weave in a little brash but honest confrontation -- as long as you follow it with an expression of endearment.  Thrift is in play in a Rat year, but so is favoritism.  Those who hold us dear may bestow bounty, but no one else will.  Therefore, we need to be collectors and pay attention to bargains as the thrifty rat does.  Shop the junkyards for parts necessary to complete your innovation, stock up on toilet paper or ink cartridges on sale.  The Year of the Rat is good for writers, as Rat is the writer of the Lunar signs, due to his clever mind.  2008 also gives opportunities to gather information, and an ease in meeting and overcoming challenges.  This is a year when being industrious pays off and charm is the ticket.  Rats are especially bonded to their families, which makes 2008 a year to pay attention to them, or even begin one.  The focus of an EARTH Rat year is discipline and security.  Work, rather than speculation, is the way to success in the time of an EARTH Rat.  This requires patience.  Slowly, and only slowly, gradually, but surely, effort pays off. Those born in the Year of the Horse and the Year of the Rooster may find any Rat year or Rat person to be an unpleasant experience -- but it's also a year when overcoming challenge is quite possible.  An EARTH Rat year is very much in tune with the temperament of all astrological Earth and Water signs.

The last time we were in an EARTH Rat year was 1948.  Here are 22 memorable, recorded, events from that year -- it will be interesting to see the parallels that may emerge in this Year of the Earth Rat:

Long-playing 33-1/3 rpm record, the LP, is introduced by Columbia Records -- a vinyl disk with 25 minutes per side; old records delivered 4 minutes.

World Council of Churches formed.

The Berlin Blockade is put into affect.

Truman signs Selective Service Act, creating US's first peacetime draft.

First McDonalds drive-in opened in San Bernardino, California.

Nat King Cole's record of eden ahbez's song "Nature Boy" is a big hit.

George Orwell writes 1984 (originally titled 1948).

Alfred C. Kinsey's "Sexual Behavior in the Human Male" is published.

Disc brakes are introduced by Chrysler.

Evelyn Waugh's novel savaging the funeral industry, "The Loved One," is published.

You are a Rat (and not a dirty one!) if you were born during the following cycles; the element, or kind, of Rat you are is given too:
February 19, 1996 to February 6, 1997 (Fire)
February 2, 1984 to February 19, 1985 (Wood)
February 15, 1972 to February 2, 1973 (Water)
January 28, 1960 to February 14, 1961 (Metal)
February 10, 1948 to January 28, 1949 (Earth)
January 24, 1936 to February 10, 1937 (Fire)
February 5, 1924 to January 24, 1925 (Wood
February 18, 1912 to February 5, 1913 (Water)**

The Rat is the first sign of the Lunar Cycle.  Rats of any element are known to be charming, innovative, bright and fun loving.  They adore parties and large social gatherings.  They are inquisitive and disarming.  The Rat loves a challenge, and works diligently, despising idleness. Rats are excellent writers, even gossip columnists -- maybe the bloggers of today.

      2+0+0+8 = 1 Year

ONE is a number of beginning.  2008 bids us all to start something brand new, something that expresses our uniqueness, that uses our leadership abilities, that opens us to new perspectives.  2008 as a One year is a time to think and act independently.  It's also a year to put our leadership abilities and unique talents to use in the greater world, to practice cooperating without losing individuality.

Against the background of this ONE, which the whole world is resonating to in 2008,  each of us have a Personal Year number. Here are simple instructions for finding yours, and a brief meaning of each number.

Add your birth month and date and the number 1.

NOTE:  Reduce all numbers to a single digit between 1-9, i.e.:

10 becomes 1, 12 becomes 3, 25 becomes 7.

BUT: there's an exception for the double numbers 11 and 22.  DO NOT reduce them, add them in as they are.  Double numbers are considered Master Numbers, a call to understand and perfect.

NUMBERS & THEIR MEANING:
1- Individualization
2 - Association
3 - Self-Expression
4 - Organization
5 -  Experience
6 - Responsibility
7 - Wisdom
8 - Material Freedom
