with the powerful energies of their unconscious nature.
What we call "culture" is an attempt to limit and define the areas of
consciousness and interpersonal or group behavior within which growth
and exploration...can be considered safe and sound. Sun and sea
are powerful forces; they can kill as well as illumine and inspire, as
can various kinds of forces with humanity's unconscious. The
cultural and religious institutions of society aim to act as protective
agencies, especially for the youth. Overprotection and
hypocritical behavior by supposed grownups defeat this purpose, and lead
to an at least partially healthy rebellion against the protective
paternalism of social institutions. This, however, does lead to
many a symbolic "sunstroke." This symbol brings to us a
realization of the value of PROTECTIVENESS, yet also evokes the negative
possibility that too much protection may be unhealthy and defeat its
purpose.*

Barack Obama was born in the Year of
the Ox, and hurray for that. He's the perfect rendition of what an
Ox personality is: responsible, calm and eloquent.

Saturn and Uranus dominate the cold winter
atmosphere with their battle of old vs. new. In these first three
months of 2009, we experience the crucifixion of restrictive, outdated
structures on the shaking cross of the unknown and its frightening
chaos. We resist of course. Saturn's patterns have us by the
subtlest emotional strands, and we don't like change anyway. The
adventure of risk no longer appeals to us, we prefer cozy slippers and
known territory. Too bad. We have to change ourselves,
personally and culturally. What has been isn't working. But
who's to assure that a new way will work? No one but you.
It's an inside job, and the new will win this battle: it has help from
the numerological wave of 2009, the number 11, calling us to illuminate
our lives and be inventive (scroll down to read more about 2009 as an 11
year). ~~~~ There is a lot of connectivity between Saturn and Uranus in
ancient myths. In myth, Uranus -- the Sky god -- was murdered by
his own son, Cronus -- Saturn (Spirit, the Sky God, murdered by the
confines of Time, Cronus/Saturn). After the murder, Cronus/Saturn
was heralded as a god who would bring forth a golden age, but he proved
to be a cruel god who wound up eating his own children and bringing
forth the Furies. Now, two thousand plus years later,
Spirit/Uranus has returned to confront his death-dealing son, Cronus/Saturn,
and reclaim earth. Remember that as you resist leaving your comfy
habits and attitudes. (Wouldn't you rather fly than trudge?) ~~~~
To further emphasize the power of the new, Uranus, a planet that holds
the meaning of revolution, independence, inventiveness, is travelling
thru the mutable water sign Pisces, a sign associated with the age we
have been in for 2000 years and are in the process of leaving. The
age we are moving into, Aquarius, is 'ruled' by the planet Uranus.
Tidal waves of synchronicity that will change the landscape inside and
out, they are a'comin'. ~~~~ Saturn is a planet associated
with both structure and stricture, and it is posited in the mutable
earth sign Virgo, Pisces' opposite. Virgo holds on to its harvest.
Those tidal waves will be met by roots and rock that are difficult to
dislodge. But definitely not impossible. ~~~~ This battle,
this resistance of the old to change, is going on within each of us,
cellularly, mentally, spiritually, emotionally. And it's going on
in all cultures around the globe as well, at every stratum of our
institutions. Just take in the news and you see it. Then look
within, you'll see the battle between the familiar and the unknown is
equally active in your sinews. ~~~~ This blood in the snow is
visible to everyone on the planet during this frigid winter, and it's
happening everywhere at every level. But it gets very personal for
Virgo people born in the last fifteen days of the sign, or those who
have planets within the last fifteen degrees of Virgo. The
Uranus in Pisces vs. Saturn in Virgo combat is the major action to pay
attention to during these first three months of 2009. ~~~~ But
there is another major planetary transit, though slower and ultimately
more inexorable, more totally annihilating of what is rotten and
outmoded in human institutions, that will make reverberating music in
2009. It will take a full fourteen years from now for what has
just noisily begun to break down -- the corporate and financial systems
of capitalism -- to be so decimated that a rebirth of the economy
can manifest.
The transforming elements have been drawn
to money and the shell game it is; and to the venal, greedy purveyors of
the pure fantasy that money is based on. (For a lucid and

Zeitgeist Addendum.) All this describes the entry this year of
Pluto -- the little dwarf planet with immense power which demands we
mutate now and avoid the rush -- into the corporate sign of Capricorn,
thru which it will travel for the next fourteen years. I predict
that the money systems currently in use -- the paradigm of accumulation
that is capitalism -- will be destroyed during these next fourteen
years. The corporates will fight to keep their institutions in
place and play, but the lie of promise and the burden of debt each
dollar is heir to will not withstand the devaluing exposure it will go
thru. And the people will shout their fury. The populace
doesn't stand mute when the larder is bare. The government sees
this. Recently, the news reported that police in Phoenix, Arizona
have been trained for civil unrest containment in case people begin to
riot in the streets over no livelihood; no livelihood while CEOs of
bailed out companies still make more money in a year than the majority
of us makes in a lifetime. ~~~~ This turning of a bad financial
situation into a new variety of violets is especially workable for Virgo
people born in the first four days of the sign, or with planets in the
first four degrees of the sign. This will continue for the entire
year 2009.
